VERMONT YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS Each winter, a Weston teaching artist guides high school students in writing their own original one-act plays. Over six weeks, the professional playwright/teaching artist leads three in-school sessions where students learn about dramatic structure and elements of plays, and receive a constructive analysis of their work in a supportive group environment. While all participating students will experience the pride of completing a play, six selected young playwrights will see their work brought to life by experienced actors under professional direction on the Playhouse stage. SCHOOL MATINEES Hundreds of students from high schools, home schools, and colleges throughout Vermont and greater New England are served each year by our School Matinee program. These special fall performances are made available to school groups at heavily discounted and subsidized prices and are further enhanced by accompanying study guides and post-show discussions. The 2021 School Matinee production will be The Mountaintop , by Katori Hall. The show is a playful and moving exploration of the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., set during the final night of his life. Performances are most Tuesdays-Fridays at 10:00am, October 5-October 22. This production is perfect for English, drama, history, and humanities classes. BROADWAY THEATRE CAMP Weston offers 7th - 12th grade students an incredible opportunity to learn what it takes to be a Broadway performer. Take your skills to the next level with workshops on Broadway choreography, singing, acting, modernizing Shakespeare, and picking audition material. Broadway Theatre Camp maintains a challenging yet supportive environment with unsurpassed instruction from Broadway and regional performers. Students of all levels of experience are welcome!
