Season 87, Summer Staff, 2023

It’s a joy to welcome you to your home for exceptional theater in Vermont. This year's shows promise laughter and inspiration, with stories centered around family, friendship, love, and hope. From Jersey Boys and its story of the sensational Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons to The Porch on Windy Hill ’s heartwarming tale about the unifying power of music; from Pippin 's magical journey to the spine-tingling secrets of The Woman in Black …Season 88 will thrill you with the joy of live performance. We can't wait to sing, dance, and celebrate Weston’s indomitable spirit with you this year. In the aftermath of last year’s floods, we discovered the full potential of our intimate new theater. While repairs continue at The Playhouse, we’re excited to produce this year’s lineup solely at Walker Farm , where you’ll be closer to the magic than ever before! WELCOME TO WESTON theater company’s 88th Season

Thank you for being with us and enjoy the show!

Land affirmation

“ Weston Theater Company acknowledges that we stand on THE TRADITIONAL LAND OF THE ABENAKI PEOPLE, who tended this earth long before Europeans arrived, long before it was known as Vermont. IN RECOGNITION OF THIS HISTORY, we commit to policies and practices of CULTURAL EQUITY to benefit current & future generations. ”

Weston Theater Company is dedicated to creating an inclusive work environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and empowered. WTC embraces and celebrates the unique experiences, perspectives, and cultural backgrounds that each employee, artist and audience member brings to our theaters, our campus and our community. WTC acknowledges that the stark lack of diversity in Vermont - most notably, but not exclusively, racial - means that joining our community may require an act of bravery for those not widely represented here. As we strive to create a safe place where ALL participants feel that they belong, WTC has established a set of Commitments for an Anti-Racist and Inclusive Theater, as a living document (started in 2022), which we will update and report on annually. Our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, & belonging

Oklahoma, 2019. Photo by Hubert Schriebl

These Commitments stem from our core values and seek to: widen our appetite and our aperture for open dialogue; anticipate and mitigate inevitable ‘blind spots’; protect staff, board members, artists, and audiences whose identities and voices have historically been underrepresented or overlooked in Vermont; and to truly welcome diversity in all aspects. We do this in the spirit of self-reflection and with the aspiration to continually learn how to be more inclusive with each new day and theatrical season. We set benchmarks for success across these commitments and will share our efforts, progress and gaps publicly through an annual report. We welcome ideas and questions to help keep us accountable to these ideals, from every community we serve.

MADE POSSIBLE WITH SUPPORT BY

WESTON THEATER COMPANY Avenue of the Stars

During the Great Depression and in the midst of Weston’s long, dark winters when the town was cut off from villages on the other side of the hills, neighbors came together to put on plays that brought to life stories of the world beyond. From these beginnings, families like the Walkers, the Lloyds, and others, created a first-class theater that never lost the connection to its town and the surrounding region. The pathway from the Walker Farm south on Route 100 to The Playhouse on the Green became known as the “Avenue of the Stars.” Come the 1950s, the theater had become a mainstay of Southern Vermont’s cultural landscape and The Playhouse venue was recognized as an attractive destination for out-of-town visitors. By the turn of the last century and under the 30-year leadership of the ‘3 Guys’, Weston transformed into a professional theater. Broadway and regional theater stars made their way to the town summer after summer to create first-class entertainment for a welcoming audience and the theater became known for celebrating the classics and nurturing new stories. Today, the theater’s 87-year legacy

continues as it creates exceptional theater in its exceptional town, telling stories that connect us all to one another and to the world on the other side of the hills.
